At legendary we have always bred for all around terriers that can do it all. We believe the reason the Jack Russell is such a versatile dog can be credited to the qualities necessary for a Jack Russell to be a good hunter. Both intelligence and athleticism are necessary in order for a dog to hunt day after day and not become seriously injured. Correct conformation also allows these dogs to have more flexibility and allows them to work longer with less physical punishment and exertion. The most important aspect of conformation here at legendary is without a doubt chest size and our goal is to always breed terriers that are not just barely spannable but easily spannable and flexible. We do this because from our hunting experiences we have come to truly appreciate a dog that is the right size with a small chest and great flexibility.
While we do compete in and enjoy conformation and go to ground at many shows, we also believe what happens in these events are not the true test of a real jack russell. The working ability of a jack russell can only be measured by working these dogs. We encourage Jack Russell owners and especially breeders to work their terriers and find out for themselves what qualities are necessary to have a good working terrier. We have included a few photos of some of our hunts. We hunt mostly in Oklahoma and locally her in Colorado.
